I will be flying home tonight. My sister flies in from Chicago. We will actually pass in the air!!! Please pray for our safety. We are not comfortable flying. Dad is very weak, but continues to improve. We covet your continued prayers for both my mom and my dad.

Dad
We have so much to be thankful for. Dad's extubation today went even better than we expected!! Thank you for your prayer. What would life be without prayer warriors!!! The doc says his diaphram is really strong and it has enabled him to have a very productive cough. I learned today that is vital after you have been intubated. He coughed, and coughed and coughed more....which is really good. It has been painful for him, but he has tolerated morphine very well. Thank you Jesus for morphine. He will probably cough for several more days. Dad will remain in icu for probably 2 more days and then to a step-down unit. I think it is called progressive care.
His vocal chords are swollen and he cannot talk, but that will improve daily. It is so good to see him awake. He has been in a deep sleep (sedation) since Thursday morning. No life to him whatsoever. It was a blessing for him to sleep because the intubation is not a pretty thing. The nurses decreased his sedation twice a day to rouse him briefly in order to check his ability to come out of the sedation. That was difficult, but they would increase the meds soon after that.
My brothers and sister that are here have been so faithful to take off work and be with Mom. I have been thankful to be able to be here a few days to help out, but what a relief to know they take such good care of my mom and dad. They all work also and it is not an easy thing to always be here, but they do not hesitate. My sister-in-law brought a home-cooked meal to us last night. It was really nice. She had baked ham, fresh green beans, red potatoes, sliced tomatoes and green onions and these wonderful cornbread muffins. It was really good.
My sister will be here from Chicago tomorrow to take over when I go home. I am so thankful she will be here. Please continue to pray for healing for my dad and strength daily for mom and dad.

Update on Daddy
The dr. was very encouraging this am. He feels like they can get Daddy off the ventilator in the morning. They will gradually wean him off of it. He said they could do it today(Sunday) but felt it would be safer to do it when the hospital has a full staff. I guess alot of the docs do not come in on Sunday. If Dad's throat swells up or has any kind of a problem they will have to have another airway(probably a tracheotomy). His nurse today said that alot of people have to have trachs and he could even go home with one, but that will probably not happen, just an option if there is any kind of a problem.
Baylor hospital has been really good. We feel like he is getting excellent care and the staff are so kind and helpful to us. He is in icu and we are allowed to stay all day (except for a 2 hour staff change time am and pm). It is helpful to be in the room with him. I don't know if he can hear us, but the nurse said he might be able to. They have decreased his sedation a fraction so maybe he can hear us. We have no indication if he can or not.
Please pray that his throat will not close up tomorrow and he will be able to breathe on his own. Blessings Memaw Barbie

Dad's condition
Dad has had to be hospitalized due to an infection. He was brought in on Wednesday night. Mom and my brother Eddie took him to the nearest hospital to their home. The
Dr. at that hospital felt he would be better treated at Baylor/Plano where he had been before as he felt he might need to be intubated. He was transported via ambulance that night. It was a very rough night and early on Thursday the docs decided he indeed needed to be on a respirator due to his inability to get enough oxygen because of the coughing. He had been doing this for several days and was getting progressivly worse.
I was able to get a flight out on Thursday evening. They are saying he might be able to come off the respirator the first of the week. My sister comes in from Chicago on Tuesday which is the day I am due to go home.
Dad is being very well cared for at this hospital and we are thankful for the Dr. here and are praying for continued wisdom for him regarding his care for our Dad.
Please continue to pray for him. It is very difficult to see him in this condition. He is pretty well sedated all the time, but tries to rouse occasionally. He is not a happy camper and it rips your heart everytime to witness. While we were in his room Dad has an episode with his heart and it began to race at about 173 bpm. The docs were in there pronto and gave him a shot to slow his heartrate down. The first shot didn't help so they gave him more. It worked very quickly. He has svt (supra ventricular tachycardia) which means a very rapid heartrate. The doc said it is probably due to everything that has been going on in icu. It can be dangerous if prolonged. That happened 3 times yesterday so they have had to put him on another medication (which should be temporary) to block the adrenaline going to his heart. It has worked well. Thank you Jesus!
Mom is holding up fairly well. She has agreed to go home at night and rest. We are with her 24/7. This hospital is really nice. They allow you to stay with your loved one all day, except 2 hours 6 am-8am and 6pm - 8 pm. So we are there with Dad all day. Thankyou for your continued support. We covet your prayers and feel Gods' presence with us. Blessings Memaw Barbie
